Maple Cinnamon Chestnut Butter

“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire” brings to mind those enchanting Christmas moments, but what if we switched it up to “chestnuts roasting on your grill”? Sounds fun, right?

Alright, it might not have that perfect sound, but it’s sure to bring the Christmas spirit to everyone nearby! Winter is such a wonderful time to try out new foods outdoors!

If you happen to have some chestnut trees nearby, definitely go foraging! It’s such a fun adventure and totally worth it.

But if you can’t find any, don’t worry—most supermarkets have bags of chestnuts available this time of year!

Why not try roasting them over an open flame? It’s such a delightful winter treat!

The Components

The Method

Grilled chestnuts with smoke

  1. Give those chestnuts a thorough wash and dry them off! Grab a sharp knife and gently make a tiny slit just through the skin on one side of the chestnut. Easy peasy!
  2. Fire up your barbecue and get it cozy and toasty at 200°C! Simply pop those chestnuts in a skillet or a flat roasting tray and let them roast for about 30 minutes. Easy peasy!
  3. Time to take those chestnuts off the barbecue! Simply pop some baking paper over the nuts and throw a tea towel on top! This will let them sweat while they cool down, making it easier to get rid of the shells and inner skin.
  4. Once it’s cool enough to handle, peel off the outer skin and any loose inner skin. A paring knife can help make this easier!

Butter

  1. Just toss all the ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend away until it’s creamy and smooth, or to whatever texture you like best!
  2. Simply scoop it into a jar and pop it in the fridge! It’ll stay excellent for about a month.
